Over the holidays I managed to do a few of those boring-but-necessary chores. You know, the ones that keep getting pushed to the bottom of the “to-do list” time and time again.
One of those was (drum-roll, please): organizing my cleaning supplies. (Wow, that group yawn was deafening!!!)
But seriously, it was getting ridiculous – all the half-empty bottles, and duplicates of shower cleaners, counter cleaners and disinfectant cleaners. Especially since I started using many more natural alternatives…there was quite a bit of junk underneath those sinks and in the closet that I just wasn’t gonna use anymore.
Actually, knowing that each time I set out to clean I had to go through that mess – just to get started – was one of the reasons I regularly put off cleaning… (please don’t judge!)
It felt SO good to get it all outta there, and look at a nice clean space where my cleaning caddy fit in so nicely 😉
And it really wasn’t so bad, ya’ know.
So I thought I’d outline my own process for you, and see if it would help you get to that silly little chore, too… (Oh, but DO keep reading even if you don’t
feel like doing this need to do this…) Go pour yourself a glass of water, take a deep breath and remind yourself that you’ll feel wonderful after it’s all over 🙂
4 Simple Steps to Keeping Your Cleaning Supplies Organized
- Take EVERYTHING out and start from scratch
You can’t organize what you don’t know you have! Take everything out of the cabinet or off the shelf, and begin.
2. Put like products together – outside the cabinet
Scouring powders, dish soaps, disinfectant cleaners and sprays, etc. If there’s something there that you don’t use anymore, don’t be afraid to throw it out, or combine bottles (but ONLY if they’re the SAME product!).
3. Decide which products you use more frequently, and put them in a caddy or bucket up front, along with a clean rag and sponge; put products you use less often in the back. This makes it easy to take your cleaning supplies with you wherever you need them. If you prefer, you can do this same process in your bathroom, with bathroom-specific supplies.
4. Now put everything back under the sink, step back and admire your work!
See? That wasn’t really quite as hard as you thought, was it? (Things usually work that way…dread makes it feel like it’s gonna be much worse to accomplish than it really is 😉 )
Two really important things to keep in mind
Yes, it may feel wasteful at first, but my rule of thumb is to try a product at least twice, and if it doesn’t work…chuck it!
2 When you find something you like love, stick with it!
Now you may have read before about my appreciation for ePantry. I’ve loved their products from the very beginning. Actually, I first tried out Mrs Meyer’s cleaning products through their service. (Refer back to #2 of the important things to keep in mind – and I LOVE Mrs, Meyer’s!) Yes, I’d seen them before in the store, but never gave them a shot…until ePantry had such a good deal on a trial offer that I just couldn’t pass it up 😉
I just adore their Lavender scent in the bathroom! Even my kids comment how nice it smells in there after I’ve been cleaning. Totally sold on the toilet bowl cleaner, too. Wonderful scent AND it works! You laugh, but how many times have you tried a natural product that costs and arm and a leg and it doesn’t work, right?! Their Geranium hand soap is a staple in my kitchen. And this month they’ve got yet another great offer that I want to share with you… 🙂
