One of the things I love about blogging is when new brands and/or products come to you and ask for your support. I learn about so many new things that way!
Yeah, of course, many times they’re a little hokey, or asking for way-too-much-involvement than I either can give or am willing to give, or asking for free advertising (ugh – like you’re selling a product and have NO advertising budget?! Really now…).
But a few months ago, Jillian Darlington found and invited us to become brand ambassadors for a new app she was developing. At the time, I didn’t even have a smart phone, so even though her description sounded interesting, I just pushed the email aside.
A short while later, my lovely cell-phone-from-the-stone-age fell into oblivion, and I “had” to get a new phone. My darling eldest daughter not only talked me into an Android, but bought it for me (she’s sweet that way!)…and yes, my life has not been the same.
Jillian is a persistent lady, however, and when she once again approached us a few weeks later…I happily agreed to try out the app and take it for a test drive.
What exactly IS the “MomCo” app?
Well, let’s see. Older moms, think about all the things you used to do, or wanted to do, or struggled with, when you had the little ones at home.
- Organize play dates
- Find sales on diapers, toys and baby food
- Plan fun family-friendly activities
- Meet other moms in similar situations
- Find reliable and trustworthy babysitters
- Ask questions about the myriad of new circumstances and challenges you were facing
- Deal with home repair, and a thousand-and-one other things that go with caring for a household
Yeah…remember those days?
For many, many years (even when our kids were babies) we lived far away from our families. The first home we owned was 2 hours away, at best, from my mother-in-law, (even farther from my own folks) and we didn’t know a soul when we moved there…and that was in the middle of a northern winter, if you can paint that picture in your mind. Talk about feeling lonely and disconnected and not knowing where to turn! I would have LOVED to have this app back in the day! And I would have used it ALOT 😉
Younger moms, do you ever find yourself dealing with any of those issues yourself? Especially in this age of mobility in which we live, many new moms don’t live with or among family or older women who can mentor and help them through this life stage.
Enter, the MomCo App!
I know, I know, there’s plenty of “bad stuff” on the internet and in cyberspace, but rather than curse the darkness, what I love about Jillian and the MomCo App developers is that they’re lighting a candle.
MomCo App, available at no-cost for both iPhones and Android, has the ability to address many of the above issues facing new moms. It has a very smooth and user-friendly interface, which is especially appealing to this baby boomer who is workin’ hard to keep up with technology.
Like all things, however, there is a downside. Ya’ gotta build a tribe on it! This is a great app for those living in urban areas – lots of businesses that can get involved and lots of potential friends and new faces to meet. I, however, live in a rural part of my state, where we are much less-densely populated, and honestly, lots of new moms are near to their moms, or at least family and family friends. So while I am eager to get a wonderful and involved network created (yes, I have downloaded the app to my own phone!), there is probably much less of an incentive for younger moms in our region to become a part of that community – right now.
But I don’t envision it staying that way for long!
With all the possibilities for businesses to get involved (see infographic below), I am convinced that this app will prove itself in the long run to both city and country moms!
Take a look at the stats below, and then create your own account! Don’t forget to look me up, either – I’ll be there to encourage young and old moms alike 🙂
What’s keeping YOU from joining the MomCo community?
If you have any questions about it, feel free to ask in the comments below. If I don’t know the answer, I’ll find out for you!!
