I love essential oils…
They provide my family with fragrant aromas that fill our home, alternately energizing, or calming, or helping us celebrate the seasons.
I appreciate and enjoy how they add to the quality of our life and health.
They fit seamlessly into our kids’ lives too. I thought it was neat when my STEM-loving daughter took it upon herself to write this paper for class about three of the “beneficial plants” that are used to make essential oils.
And they even make it a tad less painful for me when I use them in wonderfully-scented natural cleaning and freshening recipes around the house.
If you’re looking for some simple ways to start using these gems, look no further. We’ve gathered up our favorite recipes, from this site and others, for your aromatic convenience!

While many essential oils may be used in a diffuser for aromatherapy uses, they can also be used topically (on the skin). However, due to their concentrated nature, it’s recommended that you mix them with a carrier oil. These oils prevent your skin from becoming irritated by the essential oil’s intense concentration, and allow your skin to absorb the blend more easily. There are many options available, and each has its own benefit and best use:
- Olive oil
- Jojoba oil
- Avocado oil
- Sweet almond oil
- Grapeseed oil
- Fractionated coconut oil
You can learn more about carrier oils here (scroll down to the “Topical Application” section).
