Coffee and Conversation Link Party #75 – Using Tech to Schedule Chores

Good morning and welcome to Coffee and Conversation #75 – hosted by PatAndCandy.com!

Coffee & Conversation with Pat and Candy!

Happy New Year to you all!  I hope your holidays were filled with sweet memories and lots of quality family time…or that you at least “got through” them all with your mind in tact 😉

The start of a new year always brings to mind resolutions, and they are often in one of these areas (in no specific order): save money, get organized, lose weight.

While I’m not a big fan of the resolution route, this week I wanted to talk today about the general category of getting organized, but with a bit of a twist. Even though our “resident organization guru” Kim Pittman has often cautioned us against relying on technology to help us get our acts together, I realized over the holidays just how much I depend on the calendar and note function of my smart phone (and believe me, I don’t even have one with nearly all the bells and whistles you can have!).

So I started looking up different apps one could use to help me schedule those household chores that you don’t do on a regular basis. That seems to be my pitfall. For example, the dishes get done (mostly), but every once in a while I’ll adjust my glasses and see that the window blinds are absolutely brown with dust and grime 🙁 Yuck! (please don’t judge!)…

Well, call me naive or whatever, but I had NO idea what a can of worms I’d opened up when I started looking into this stuff!  So much so that there is no way my research would ever fit into the space I allot before our link party… So, hate to do this to you, but if you’re interested in reading up on some of the apps I discovered (and I’d love if you’d share any you know of that I may have missed!), you’ll have to head over to our “How to Use Technology to Schedule Household Chores” page… Rest assured that I’ll be working on that page for some time to come! (Go ahead and click on it. It will open up in a new tab and you can stay here for now and see some of the great posts shared below!)

And…since I’m just getting out of the holidays myself, which weren’t really super-restful for me – were yours?, I hope you’ll bear with me as I feature the top 4 posts from our last Coffee & Conversation with little personal comment of my own. It’s not that I didn’t love them myself…just that I’m having a hard time getting back into the swing of things…{sigh}

Thank you so much for your understanding!!

Hi Pat!!! Popping in to say hi and I miss you!!! Great party as usual… Everyone is so motivating this time of year I’m ready to rip through my goals 🙂

Happy New Year, Amanda! So happy to see you here again! LOVE your enthusiasm…I’m gonna have to refer to it if I get discouraged later on… 😉

I remember when I was looking into all those apps – took forever, but then I’m one of those people who has to check out everything. 🙂 I’m using Wunderlist, and while it’s not technically a calendar app, I use it as my to do list and calendar in one, and just set up chores to repeat on a certain interval. Hope you find something you like! Thanks for hosting, Pat! 🙂

That’s a great idea, CJ. And actually, since I’ve already gone through a few of these apps too, I’m leaning towards tweaking my Google calendar, which is my “go to” product… Gah – these things are driving me crazy!! LOL

Many thanks for hosting linky party, just found several new very interesting blogs.

    • Pat January 6, 2016 at 3:36 pm #

Doesn’t it, tho?! I felt really “out of it” this holiday season…
      Here’s to a terrific 2016 for us all! 🙂

I just read a post about all the apps out there for keeping up with your goals (mostly scheduling type apps) and I was so overwhelmed! I’m looking forward to your “How to use technology…” page!

    • Pat January 6, 2016 at 3:39 pm #

Ohhhhh wellllll, I hope it doesn’t just muddy the waters even more for you!! It IS so very overwhelming… I know I usually ask my 11-yr old daughter to download apps that I want to try (and then usually delete them too!). Why, and when, has life gotten so complicated?!

  6. Jennifer January 6, 2016 at 11:56 am #

Thanks for hosting, happy new year!

    • Pat January 6, 2016 at 1:23 pm #

You’re welcome, Jennifer! Thanks for coming by… 🙂

Awww, thanks, girls! You are just the gifts that keep on giving to me! I’m afraid I’ll have to skip your sure-to-be-helpful household chores/apps post since I still have a dumb phone! 😉 But about this–“since I’m just getting out of the holidays myself, which weren’t really super-restful for me – were yours?”–I am SO on board. Because, no, our holidays weren’t restful at all. They were good, and the things we were busy doing instead of resting were important to do and needed to be done. But it does rather feel like we’ve crashed into the new year. Lord, Lord, give us strength! Thank you for hosting so graciously as always!

    • Pat January 6, 2016 at 8:52 am #

Well…KEEP the dumbphone is my 2 cents (not that you asked for it…). Seriously, while I do have a smart-ish, or sometimes smart alecky, phone ~ and mind you I do depend on it a bit too-much-for-my-own-liking, if you’re makin’ it without one…it’s just yet another thing to mess with. So kudos for you!
Praying for strength for you/us as we barrel into 2016!

It’s a pleasure to see that my post on drinking your coffee more slowly (i.e., savoring life) was among the most viewed. I hope we can all do this a bit more during this coming year!

    • Pat January 6, 2016 at 7:40 am #

Oh Shannon, I know that’s on MY “bucket list” this year, so to speak… It was a great post, and a much-needed reminder!
      Have a great week 🙂

  9. Lisa January 6, 2016 at 1:31 am #

Thanks so much for the feature and also for hosting a great party each week! xoxo
