Coffee & Conversation Link Party #79 – Your Voice, Your Vote

Good morning and welcome to Coffee and Conversation #79 – hosted by PatAndCandy.com!

Coffee & Conversation with Pat and Candy!

In a seriously uncharacteristic move for me, I remained glued to the streaming results of the Iowa Caucuses, via ABCNews.com, this past Monday night. I was just fascinated to be able to actually watch this aspect of the election process live, in action, in real time! I never really understood how the caucuses worked, and I didn’t even know until Monday that the process differs between the Republican and Democratic parties! Did you?

If you’re interested in learning more and would like a clear and well-written guide, NPR has put together an “Overview and Iowa Guide” for the 2016 Elections. No matter what political side you lean towards, I found the guide interesting and informative, as well as a bit entertaining 😉 Check it out for yourself! And even though you’re reading this after the caucuses are over, rest assured they’ll be rolling around again in 2020! So if you’d like some material to help you teach your kids (or yourself!) about the electoral process ~ or at least answer any questions they may have ~ you may want to check out our own page of election resources, too.

I don’t know about you, but I find that my views and attitude about elections have been changing over time. While I do look with a degree of sorrow concerning where the US ~ and humanity in general ~ is heading in many aspects, as I age I also realize that the world is still going “according to plan.” Without trying to be a “Debby downer”, Scripture does teach us that it will get worse before it gets better.

So I will continue to vote. And I will continue to do what I can to influence those in my own circle and live out the Gospel in my own life. But no matter the results (or apparent lack thereof),  I need to remember that I’m not to despair.

At the end of the day, only God can change hearts. Only God can redeem mistakes and sin and bad choices. Only God can make beauty out of ashes.

My job is to “hang in there”…and obey.

UPDATE: I’ve found some excellent election guides for the 2016 Presidential elections. Please take a look at our Election Resource page for the details!

Your Voice, Your Vote

I guess the Iowa caucuses influenced me more than I thought, because this week I decided to take a look at the numbers and choose solely on your “votes 😉 “!!  So this week’s features are totally reader-driven: “the people’s choice!”

I’m NOT Losing Weight This Year

Apparently Cathy’s post resonated with a LOT of you, as I well understand. This post is what “sold me” on her blog, My Side of Fifty:

For me, 2016 is the year of self-love and self-care. Of being kind to myself. Because I know that out of that, care and love for others will flow. And that is what is important to me.

Don’t you just love her heart?

A Little R&R Linky Party

I thought this was kind of interesting, because of all the great posts that Rosilind crafts, this one doesn’t really contain one. single. word: one of your top-viewed favs this week was Rosilind’s link party!  If you’re not familiar with her – an American married to a Bosnian, living in and blogging from that country – do take some time and look around… 🙂

What Distorts and Damages Men’s Openness – and a Link-Up

Beth is such a very sweet and wise woman – the kind of friend you’d just LOVE to meet for a cup of {insert your beverage-of-choice here} and spend an hour or two talking. Honestly and gently sharing what you might need-but-not-want to hear…and feel blessed in the process.  She’s just so stinkin’ REAL!

Nothing-Wasted

Speaking of being “so stinkin’ real” … I had a super crazy day today and completely forgot to linkup here, Pat! I can’t believe I did that, especially after you gave me the heads up and sweet honor of being highlighted in this post. My apologies for showing up late, but as usual, I love your linkup here and am grateful for your kindness and friendship! That goes for Candy too!

With the way the world is going it would be easy to get so caught up in fear wouldn’t it? We watched the caucuses and we always vote but we have to place our faith in God’s sovereignty to be with us no matter what is to come.
Thanks for hosting and have a blessed week.
