Coffee & Conversation #77 – How to Be The Best YOU!

Good morning and welcome to Coffee and Conversation #77 – hosted by PatAndCandy.com!

Coffee & Conversation with Pat and Candy!

Hellow there…grab yourself a cuppa and get comfy! Today, I want to talk about YOU 🙂

I know, I know, you often hear me say, or at least write, from the point of view that “It’s not about me!” but as I touched upon last week when we talked about goals and dreams, if we have none, we go nowhere.  So here’s the balance: plan and dream for your future, but don’t get so wrapped up in it at the expense of loving and serving others.

With that in mind, I thought I’d share a small list of things to add to your bucket list (you mean you don’t have one yet?!) for this year, with a twist: I’m including a few things NOT to do, as well!

If you want to be the BEST YOU you can be in 2016, here are:

5 Things to Do (or at least try) in the Coming Year

  1. Learn a new skill (affiliate link)
  2. Join a book club
  3. Start attending a Bible Study
  4. Compose a bucket list or grab a Word of the Year
  5. Travel

Yeah, this list is totally subjective!  I can just HEAR some of you say: “Well, that one is silly,” or “I’m not even interested in such-and-such,” or “I already do the-other…” My simple, sweet response would be: then come up with your own list! Seriously, no malice or hard feelings – just a strong exhortation to discover or build upon a gift or talent and GO FOR IT!  Conversely,

5 Things NOT to Do in The Coming Year

  1. Hold a grudge
  2. Watch TV or YouTube or surf the internet every. stinkin’. night.
  3. Avoid a “Mother’s Night Out” or Ladies’ Night Out with the girls
  4. Treat yourself poorly (this can include sending damaging messages to yourself, or allow yourself to get overweight, or never treating yourself to a new outfit…)
  5. Quit (ANYthing!) at the first sign of difficulty

Ditto for this list, ladies! Some of these things are meant for me, and I’m just sharing them with you… YOU know what kinda stuff you should and shouldn’t be doing; what things are good for you and what aren’t; which activities build you up and which ones don’t.

Nope, it’s not “about you”…but nobody can make this year YOUR year, except you!  Make it a good one 🙂

Hey, I’d love to hear a few of your “What I’m Doing” or “What I’m NOT Doing” things in the comments below!

Now, on to this week’s features:

Winter Decor in The Winter of Life – Old Things New

Patti’s post has it all…beautiful images, encouraging message, inspiring Scripture, and a lesson for us ALL! She’s got a lifetime full of stuff to share yet ~ and she’s just getting started here!  READ THIS ONE  no matter how old you are!

Selfless Kids: It All Starts at Home –  Mess to Blessed

Wonderful, practical tips for raising children who understand “It’s not all about me!”  OK, maybe the exhortation to model that may be a little um, challenging, on some days…but neverhteless, Victoria encourages us that we CAN do it (Phil 4:13)! Let’s go, mommas!

Thank you so much for your inspiration and timely words, ladies!

And now…party time at last!

Thanks for hosting! I’m not a coffee drinker, so I’ll bring my tea. 😉

On my To-Do list this year is to build my new business…and my “Not To Do” is to not let my new business consume me. I want to keep my priorities straight…God, family, friends, then business.

    • Pat January 23, 2016 at 4:56 pm #

Tea drinkers are most welcome, too, Beth 😉
So you’re “the face” behind the Online Unit Studies?! My daughter and I thoroughly enjoyed the MLK one, and I added the Valentine’s day one to my Valentine’s Day round up on Friday! Do you think you’ll be shooting for older kids at some point? Looks like you’re off to a great start!!
Very happy to meet you…have a super week, and stop by anytime with your tea 🙂

Thank you so much for your challenge!! On my goals this year I have to pick up piano again. I’ve been putting it off so now I’m going to do it. I’m buying the book today!! THanks so much for your post AND for featuring me! This is my first time!!!

    • Pat January 22, 2016 at 10:37 pm #

SO happy we’re hosting your first feature – that’s really exciting!!!!!! Glad to hear we’ve inspired you to pick up piano again! I was even a music major in college, but sadly I don’t find time to practice these days…
      Now go tickle those ivories…

Those are some great lists! I created a 30 before 30 bucket list a couple weeks ago… http://www.charlenemaugeri.com/2016/01/30-before-30-in-honor-of-my-birthday.html

    • Pat January 21, 2016 at 9:30 pm #

Oh Charlene, I LOVE your list!! Totally move to the South…it’s great here 😉 And if you’re putting ANY money towards retirement already, you’re ahead of the game – you go, girl! The “capsule wardrobe” looks like a really neat concept, too… I’d love to know some of the books on your list – that’s about 1 a month…that’s doable!
We could have a great time over coffee talking about this…you’re rockin’ it!!
Thanks so much for stopping by…hope to see you around these parts again soon!!

To be the best you…don’t contract a terminal illness. Seriously.

It’s not The Hallmark Hall of Fame. It’s a hell of frustration and fear and impatience that brings out the worst in everyone, caregiver, patient, and family.

The only way around it that I can see is an almost superhuman sense of perspective and self-awareness, and the knowledge that the situation is the greatest attack on character that most of us will ever face.

    • Pat January 20, 2016 at 8:43 am #

I hate that this has been so hard on you and those around you… I do appreciate your consistent writing about and sharing your experiences for the benefit of others… God is most certainly using you, friend!
Thanks again for stopping by and sharing with US this week…
