Coffee and Conversation #119 – A List of Thankfuls

Good morning and welcome to Coffee and Conversation #119…

Pat will be taking some time off this month to work on a few projects for the New Year (yup, it’s getting to be ‘that’ time already!). Lucky for us, however, we have some terrific friends who will be standing in the gap…

To that end, this month we’ll be featuring some wonderful guest bloggers each week on Coffee and Conversation!

Good Morning! It’s mid-November, but you may not panic. Here’s why: Fall is for Giving Thanks (no matter what) and I’m doing a Giveaway today just for you! Thank you, Pat and Candy, for letting me host your amazing Link Party this week. I’m Sue Moore Donaldson from WelcomeHeart.com and I’m so glad you’re here.

We use Affiliate Links in many posts. It allows us to keep our site up and running smoothly. You can find more info on our Affiliate/Disclosure Page. We sincerely appreciate your support!

November helps me remember to be thankful—or it SHOULD remind me to be thankful. HOWEVER, there’s nothing magic about a month if I feel down in the mouth, out of sorts, grumpy and grungy, and planning a pity party with puny, pouty, and pathetic on the guest list.

What can help cultivate a grateful heart when your husband takes a wall out of the family room the day before your daughter’s 18th birthday BBQ with 30 high school kids on their way over? (Oh, that was my husband.)

So I made a list. A thankful list. That day it read like this:

Lord,

Thank you that the remodel is progressing.

Thank You that I didn’t yell (too much.)

Thank you that Melissa said she can help me with the BBQ.

Thank you that the house will be warm because so many kids are coming—yea!

Thank you they feel welcome in our home.

Thank you that some day the remodel will be finished, but if not, You’re getting my real house ready and that’s what matters. Amen.

Do you need to make a list of thankfuls?

Why write a list?

Here’s why: there’s something almost visceral that connects our hearts and minds and hands. Writing brings our heads to our hearts and lifts them up where they need to be: before the face of God. (And sometimes in the lap of God.)

Either way, writing reminds us: God is good and loves me and will make all things turn out for my good and my family’s good and His glory.

The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pillow Giveaway! And when we write our thankful list AND share it with a friend, it helps them be thankful, too. Thus, The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pillows was created.

Share in the comments below one reason you are thankful TODAY and your name will be entered to receive a darling handmade Gratitude Pillow and custom Journal** where you list your thankfuls, hang your pillow–and, in two weeks send it on its travels to a friend or relative. Who knows where it will end up? What matters is that you will be thankful woman.

** Winners will be chosen from email addresses left in the comments by random.org at 8:00 EDT on Tuesday, Nov 15 and notified via email.

You’re invited to the Welcome Heart, Welcome Home Facebook Group for all things hospitality.

My husband might be the hardest person on my Christmas lift to buy a gift for. Today, I prayed a simple prayer for God to “show me something I can get J for Christmas.” The VERY next store I went to the *perfect* gift presented itself. I’m just too excited and incredibly thankful!! God answered the prayer in a way and time that I never really thought he’d do!

Thankful for my grandson who continues to amaze me with his memory, how he puts together sentences, his imagination and how he mimics videos with his own shows…at two years old. Just wish I could record him doing those shows. Haha

This is a really encouraging reminder… I feel like I get so salty about life when I’m not thankful! I’m going to start making lists more often.
My husband just got a new job that has made scheduling and school (for both of us) difficult, but, similarly to your list that you made (being thankful for the remodeling) I need to be thankful that he has a job. And it was an answer to prayer!
So I’m thankful that my husband has a job:)

    Thanks for the encouragement!

I was just saying to a friend yesterday that I really want to work on gratitude, so this is a great reminder for me, Sue. I used to make a daily habit of listing what I was thankful for in my prayers but have gotten away from that lately, but will return to it today! Thanks also to Pat and Candy for the linkup!

Hi, Sue! I LOVE the idea and practice of a “list of thankfuls”! Just yesterday in Bible study, we focused on how being thankful activates the shoes of peace in our armor of God. This morning, I am thankful that no matter who is in the White House, God Almighty is, always has been, and always will be on His eternal throne! Thanks for being a guest hostess with the mostess here at Coffee & Conversation! 🙂
