Good morning and welcome to Coffee and Conversation #144! If the pull of technology has your family by the throat at your house, these slightly “tech-tweaked” children’s books may be just the ticket! I was looking through my Goodreads account the other day and saw Goodnight iPad on my list. I don’t remember putting it […]

Good morning and welcome to Coffee and Conversation #143! Well, do you? OK, that might be a silly question, because if you’re reading this, most likely you are a homeschool teacher! (Yeah, I’m not really thinking that many homeschool kids read this blog too often…) But there have been many homeschool teachers who have poured […]

This is a story of developing perfection. Follow closely and you’ll see how a perfect mother is born… Once upon a time, there was a mom who had five children. The concept of mentoring is often focused on mentoring youth,  And while it is admittedly an important and somewhat neglected activity in our society, a terrific sermon I heard awhile back on the concept of discipleship got me to thinking about “us women.” Many years ago, as a young wife and mother, I sought out some older Christian […]

It’s a bit ironic, but even though we live in what is often described as the most-connected time in history, we are sadly disconnected to those we spend the most time with. Additionally, in this rushed and stressed society we live in, we’re often way too busy with appointments and meetings and classes and…to enjoy […]

Guess I’ve been going through a rather introspective phase lately – has that ever happened to you? I’ve recently celebrated 8 years as a blogger. Combining that with beginning to plan child #3’s upcoming graduation from high school, I guess that’s got me a bit nostalgic. At any rate, thinking about what the past eight […]

Homeschooling Through Chronic Illness

Candy

Candy

Candy is a southern girl who enjoys the simple things in life. Dirt road drivin’, Sunday afternoon nappin’, back yard swingin’, and sunset watchin’ are a few of the things that make her smile. She’s been married to her best friend and the love of her life for almost 25 years and is navigating motherhood with her 4 children, aged 23, 19, 14, & 11. Homeschooling for over 18 years now, she is also a bit of a word-nerd (ok, maybe more than a “bit” – she actually considers making lists of homophones to be entertaining), a lover of books and chocolate, a survivor of cancer, an author, and a hula hoop maker.

Illness strikes whomever it pleases, whenever it pleases. And homeschoolers certainly don’t have an immunity against it. My own family has lived through our share of illness. From our three-year-old’s diagnosis of MAE (myoclonic astatic epilepsy) to my own battle with a very aggressive form of breast cancer, we have learned how to “keep on keepin’ […]

Though it was 20 years ago, I remember well my excitement as I planned for our very first day of homeschooling. I didn’t have a lot of available space in our single-wide trailer, but I was determined to have a designated school room. Moving our two-year-old from his slightly-larger-than-a-closet bedroom into his big brother’s bedroom […]
