Candy

Candy is a southern girl who enjoys the simple things in life. Dirt road drivin’, Sunday afternoon nappin’, back yard swingin’, and sunset watchin’ are a few of the things that make her smile. She’s been married to her best friend and the love of her life for almost 25 years and is navigating motherhood with her 4 children, aged 23, 19, 14, & 11. Homeschooling for over 18 years now, she is also a bit of a word-nerd (ok, maybe more than a “bit” – she actually considers making lists of homophones to be entertaining), a lover of books and chocolate, a survivor of cancer, an author, and a hula hoop maker.

Summertime and the livin’ is easy…AND the kitchen is hot – so who wants to spends all night cooking?  If the kids‘ idea of gettin’ mama out of the kitchen is a trip to Mickey D’s, but you’re not exactly craving fast food (and, honestly, who even knows what’s really in their food anyway), you’re […]

A few weeks ago my husband was hankerin’ for something sweet. Not one to sit around and wait for something to happen, he found a recipe online for “The Best Coffee Cake Ever.” It looked like a winner to him, so he asked for volunteers to head to the kitchen. I was conveniently busy. (Don’t […]

Keepin’ it real here, it’s been kind of hard for me to get back in the swing of things since the holidays, especially when it comes time to fixing supper for my brood.  With all the shopping and storing and prepping and cooking I did prior to and during Christmas, my head and body have […]

I may be dating myself, but some years ago there was this saying “Real men don’t eat quiche.” Well, my hubby and I used to laugh at that, because I had this go-to recipe for leftovers that I would frequently prepare for supper…which (of course) was pretty-much quiche based. As our first-born son got older, […]

I just love marinades!  You take a plain-jane cut of meat, add some spices and let them sit, and ~ voila! ~ you have an extra-special meal!

Years ago, before we gave up processed foods, Betty Crocker’s Hamburger Helper® was one of my “go-to” meals. It was inexpensive and quick (two of my favorite things!) and pretty much everyone liked it. Since then, I’ve made many failed attempts at recreating that taste and texture. But I finally hit pay dirt a couple of […]

I don’t know about you, but I need at least a few super quick go-to meals that I can count on when I’ve had one of “those days” or when there just isn’t enough time between activities to put a lot of  effort into supper. Meatball sandwiches definitely fall into that category. I love the […]

Do an internet search for vegetarian chili and you’ll find a ton of recipes. Unfortunately, most of them are super complicated with 47 different ingredients and at least 12 precise steps to perfection. I exaggerate of course, but seriously, why do they have to be so dang difficult?! This is real life. Ain’t nobody got […]

Nothing says sweater weather better than good ol’ fashioned homemade chicken soup.  You don’t even have to be sick to enjoy it…although it was almost always my momma’s remedy for “whatever-ails-you” while I was growing up. And it doesn’t have to take all day, either – but I like to drag it out just to […]
