I’ve tried several different versions of 7 Layer Salad over the years. Apparently, the ingredients that make up those magical 7 layers vary depending on who’s constructing the salad. But my favorite, by far, is the one that my sister makes for special occasions.
It is de-li-cious!
When I found out the salad had English peas and mayonnaise I was prepared to be disgusted. I don’t like English peas. At all. And I’m not a big fan of mayonnaise either. But when you combine the peas and mayo with the other ingredients (1 of which is BACON – need I say more?) the result is amazing!
7 Layer Salad
1 head of lettuce, washed and shredded
1 can of English peas, drained
small onion, chopped fine (use more or less depending on your taste)
1 pkg (12-16 oz.) bacon, cooked (make it crispy!) and crumbled
1 cup sour cream
½ cup mayonnaise
dash of Worcestershire sauce (If you struggle with pronouncing that “W” word, you need to check out this video.)
salt & pepper to taste
1 8 oz bag shredded cheese (sharp cheddar is the best)
Combine sour cream, mayo, Worcestershire sauce, salt, & pepper to taste), set aside.
In a glass bowl, layer one on top of the other: lettuce, peas, onion, and bacon.
Next spread the sour cream/mayo mixture evenly over the bacon layer.
Top with cheese.
Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 ½ hours.
